Sound - Mad Max

At the start of Mad Max we are shown nothing but a black screen with a non-diegetic voice over narrated by the main character Mad Max. This is done to focus purely on the voice and what he is saying. It allows the audience to not only hear his story but also get a feel for his attitude and personality based on the way he is talking. Furthermore, by doing this we don’t need any form of cinematography as we are introduced into the setting by just his voice aloneIn addition to this, we get a sense of how Max is being that he is the main protagonist but we just don't see him yet. Based on his voice alone we can tell that he is a stereotypical strong man due to the deep and husky voice, although can be seen as a way to show how the situation is affecting him and causing him to be almost depressed.AS Max stops talking, we hear people talking almost like they are telling the news of what is happening and how bad the situation is for everyone.  The setting is set next based on a couple seconds of pure silence which is powerful as it creates to idea of the isolation of where he is. This is then emphasized further as we hear the sound of a single lizard in the distance from Max but can hear every little movement. As the opening progresses sound adds to create the sense of thrill and danger as Max begins to quickly grab his belongings and speed away from his current place. After he does this we hear the sound of the car fade into complete silence for a short duration until another sound of a car quickly came in followed by many more heading in the same direction as Max. From this we get the idea that they are about to chase him and we are engaged seeing that it is now one against many and the odds of Max getting away are very slim and we fear for his safety as we know understand how close they are to him. When Max loses control of his vehicle the scene becomes silent  which could be to add to the effect of the high pitched sound you experience after an explosion but uses the non -diegetic narration still adding to the storyline. The tension is created shortly after as Max tries to escape after being captured and the music beings to gain tempo and speed making the music parallel to what we see. It does this until we see Max become stuck with no where to go and left with complete silence waiting for him to decide what to do.
